Item Description
Lot of 14 pieces of artboard, each measuring 4-3/8x7" w/pen and ink original art by Will Henry, the third artist to work on the "Ching Chow" single panel daily newspaper cartoon, taking over from "Ching Chow" creator Sidney Smith and his successor, Stanley Link. "Ching Chow" featured stereotypical Asian character in single panel gag, distributing Confucius-like sayings and philosophy. Each has 1960 News Syndicate Co. Inc. copyright strip and has been signed by Henry. Dates are as follows - Aug. 22 and 25; Sept. 3, 7, 9, 20, 22-23 and 29; Oct. 4-7 and 12. Some gags of note include blowing up large balloon w/stereotypical Asian face on it, carrying block of ice under hot sun (w/paste-over stereotypical Asian face), Emperor's New Clothes, as policeman chasing car on motorcycle, etc. Some scattered blue pencil editorial notations at top margins and pin holes at top corners, o/w art remains clean and Exc.
