Item Description
15.75x21.5" tear sheet from the Aug. 9, 1936 issue of "America's Greatest Comic Weekly" publication features near full page (w/"Sappo" topper strip) "Thimble Theatre" Sunday strip w/large, full body image Eugene the Jeep breaking the fourth wall, partially covering some of the panels featuring the origin of the mysterious animal w/magical abilities who first appeared in the March 16, 1936 "Thimble Theatre" strip. This later Sunday page, titled "What's A Jeep?" features Popeye and Professor Brainstine discussing Popeye's friend, w/the Professor giving a long, scientific explanation as to the origins of the Jeep, asking Popeye in last panel if he had any other questions, to which Popeye replies "Wha's A Jeep?" to the Professor's obvious surprise. Jeep appears in first panel in addition to large image. Left margin is a bit uneven as removed. Page is lightly aged and supple. VF overall. A spectacular piece to frame and a must have for Popeye fans.
