Item Description
Edwin Abbey (1852-1911) was an American muralist, illustrator and painter who flourished at the beginning of what is now referred to as the "Golden Age" of illustration. Abbey is best known for his drawings and paintings of Shakespearean and Victorian subjects, as well as for his painting of Edward VII's coronation. His most famous set of murals, "The Quest And Achievement Of The Holy Grail," is promoted in the 1895 poster offered here, adorned w/an image of a mounted Crusader holding aloft a Christian banner as pair of angels pray before the Holy Grail. Abbey's facsimile signature is at lower right. Poster measures 16-5/8x23" and notes "Published By R.H. Russell & Son - New York." Folded into quarters w/some even lt. aging and minor margin wear. Pin holes at top corners w/7/8" split at center left fold line. Fine/VF. Rare.
