Item Description
1.25". This scarce, very limited issue button has a great back story for which we thank APIC member Phil Shimkin who provided  the photocopy of the 1968 letter on McCarthy for President stationery that comes with this button. The letter is from Charles Kinsolving who was campaign manager in the 17th Congressional District, then known as the Silk Stocking District ( but since redistricted).  His final paragraph explains this button's purpose: "The button attached will identify you as a McCarthy supporter. In case the legend mystifies you, Eric is Senator McCarthy's dog, and the phrase derives from a press conference quote during the Wisconsin primary. There is a law against electioneering at the polls, and Louis Lefkowitz' legal eagles have extended it to campaign buttons. But they can't apply it to dogs".  NM displaying Mint.
