Item Description
27.5x41" for the original release of the 1922 First National film starring Norma Talmadge in dual mother/daughter role, acting alongside Wyndham Standing and Alec B. Francis. Producer Joe Schenck (Talmadge's husband) reportedly paid $75,000 (an enormous sum in those days) for the film rights to the "Smilin' Through" stage play, a gamble that paid off and was a success, w/the story gaining so much popularity that it would be remade twice in the next twenty years. Wonderful stone lithography by Butts Litho Co. of New York, poster features the three main actors in the film posed in nighttime porch setting. Originally folded, poster has been linen-mounted w/color touch-ups along fold lines and restoration to small nick at top fold crease intersection. Pin holes at top corners. Some faint mirrored moisture staining along upper/lower left/right margins, not infringing upon image area. Tiny nick at bottom center margin. Margins have some minor scattered edge filling. Poster is Fine overall but main image would matt and frame for nice display.
