Item Description
40.25x85.5" for 1897 theater performance featuring popular English actor William Terriss in "Secret Service." Great stone lithography by The Metropolitan Print of New York, NY features lifesize, full body image of Terriss as Captain Thorne, manning telegraph w/his bloodied hand bandaged, a shattered door behind him. As w/all three sheets, this poster is pieced together from three pieces, resulting in some slightly uneven margins, but images line up nicely. Originally folded, poster has been linen-mounted and has scattered repainting to margins and scattered minor color touch-ups along fold lines. Poster displays Exc. as linen-mounted, w/strong color. Terriss was murdered during this production, stabbed on Dec. 16, 1897 by a disgruntled actor as he was making his way into the Adelphi Theatre in Westminster, England. As a result, this poster for his last appearance is rare.
