Item Description
First is 2-1/8" wide badge with embossed rim text "Eastern Box Company/Boxes For Defense" with cello over insert naming employee "119/Loretta/Poiner". First seen. VF. Second badge is 7/8" tall showing Maltese cross and wreath plus text "Pledge/U.S./Cadet Nurse/Corps". Group was established by Congress and signed into law by F.D.R. July 1, 1943. The goal was to boost the supply of nurses and the Corps did not discriminate against Native Americans, African Americans or relocated Japanese Americans. VF. Last is 1-15/16" cello over paper in metal frame badge. The AWVS was founded 23 months before Pearl Harbor and was the largest American women's service organization during WWII, taking on duties as messengers, ambulance driving, fire fighting and whatever job needed done. VF. Three rarities.
