Item Description
Cartoonist Carl Schultze debuted his comic strip in the Sunday New York Herald in 1900 to instant success as audiences enjoyed Grandpa outwitting hos two mischievous grandsons. First is rare 1.75" button, Fox-1in the Hake Pop Culture guide book. No back paper but likely the first ever FG button from 1900. Two known to us. Next two in 1.5" and 1.75" sizes are for the 1902 musical comedy based on the strip. Smaller has back paper naming stage stars and larger is without paper. The strip was among the earliest to be syndicated and next two items are from Hearst's Chicago American. One is 1.25" w/back paper titled "Foxy Grandpa Prize Badge/See Him And The Boys Every Sunday In The Chicago American". Last is rare figural die-cut metallic color tinted white metal stickpin with the boys on FG's knees and "Foxy Grandpa Chicago American". All Exc. to NM and historic characters.
