Item Description
11.5x17" single page from Aug. 13, 1943 issue of "The Fort Meade Post," a military newspaper published for US military personnel on the base. Of note, page 9 has seven panel "Superman" comic strip done specially for this publication as "Fort George G. Meade, Maryland" is specifically mentioned in the text. Story deals w/Superman overhearing soldier being assigned duty of washing immense pile of dishes in limited time, calling it "A Job For Superman." Superman washes, dries and stacks the dishes, only for soldier to be put on regular dishwashing duty due to the good job he did. "Not All Men Of Tomorrow Are In Comics, Siegel Says" article written by Pvt. Jerry Siegel features photo of Superman co-creator in uniform and talks about the real life heroes in the military. Horizontal fold at center as issued w/some chipping/tears and small holes (none affecting strip or article) along right margin and center of page has 4.5x6" faint spot or moisture staining. VG/Fine overall. An obscure Superman rarity, the first such example of this very limited wartime publication we've seen in our 51 years. Franco Toscanini Collection.
