Item Description
27.25x40.75" for the original release of the 1955 Columbia 15 chapter serial starring John Hart as Captain Africa, "Mighty Jungle Avenger." While intended as the long-awaited sequel to Columbia's 1943 "The Phantom," producer Sam Katzman refused to pay King Features Syndicate their royalty demands and opted to change the name to "Captain Africa." The 1943 Phantom still appeared in this serial via a vast amount of stock footage and Hart's Captain Africa bears a more than passing resemblance to the character as seen on this poster for Chapter 9, "Blasted By Captain Africa!" Poster features image of Captain Africa holding guns plus additional action scenes and jungle animal images. Inset film scene at lower right shows Captain Africa in disguise, pulling sword to fighting men. This poster is from the personal collection of Hart (1917-2009) and has been signed by the actor by tip of Captain Africa's gun in black felt tip pen, w/Hart noting "My Personal Poster" above his signature. Hart has also added "Capt. Africa" character name. Originally folded, poster has been linen-mounted w/some color touch-ups along fold lines and at fold crease intersections. Some airbrushing to margins, which have a few tiny scattered edge chips and splits at fold lines. Displays Exc. as linen-mounted w/vivid color. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
