Item Description
Large and impressive 81x106" for 1936 performance by American stage magician Charles Joseph Carter (1874-1936), also known as Carter the Great. Stunning stone lithography by The Otis Litho Corp. of Cleveland, OH features turban-clad Carter at upper left and shows ornately costumed Indian elephant suspended on platform at center, Another image of Carter (aided by the Devil) points gun at elephant, whose spirit seems to float out of its body at upper right. Additional small devils climb chains holding elephant up. Promotional text refers to trick as "The Acme Of Magical Achievement - The Summit Of Human Effort." This oversized poster was the only size poster produced to promote this specific trick. Poster has been linen-mounted and has had extensive restoration along fold lines and at fold crease intersections. Scattered margins chips/tears w/1" corner off lower left. Upper left has streak of surface paper lifting. Scattered moisture staining along lower left margin in 2.5x5" area and 4x10" area at bottom vertical fold line. Poster has numerous staple holes along fold lined and where the separate pieces of the poster were joined together as intended. There are also several staple holes along edge of image areas and margins. Good/VG but still visually impressive.
