Item Description
20.25x29.75" poster features stunning anti-German imagery by Frederick Strothmann, showing a menacing-looking German soldier reaching toward viewer w/bloody hand, his other hand grasping his rifle, its bayonet red w/blood. Further espousing the Germans as barbarians war propaganda program, text reads "Beat Back The Hun With Liberty Bonds." 1918. Poster was folded and has now been linen-mounted w/color touch-ups along original fold lines and along repair to 13.5" vertical tear on left side of soldier's face. Margins have extensive restoration and top/bottom/right margins have been entirely repainted. Left margin has some repainting at top and bottom as well as at center. Some scattered moisture staining to white text at center. Poster displays Fine as linen-mounted w/strong color. Classic World War I poster.
