Item Description
14x27x5.5" deep wooden hinged lid case w/cord handles and stenciled "U.S. Navy Miniature Models" text by handles. Set was made by Comet Metal Product Co. of Richmond Hill, NY. 1940s. Case is designed to stand up for display use and opens to reveal 32 compartments w/removable wood shelves, each containing attached gray painted solid die-cast waterline model of 1/200 Scale ships, including cruisers, battleships, destroyers, aircraft carriers and many other American ships of the period. Some have printed identification text on underside of shelves. Used to train in the recognition of ship silhouettes by Naval personnel. A few ships have small components bent or missing and are VG while majority are complete and Fine to Exc. Some scattered dust soiling and would benefit from a cleaning. Case has moderate aging/wear and is Fine overall. High quality w/superb detail. Mark Treitel Collection.
