Item Description
13.5x21.25" artboard has pencil and ink original art by legendary comic book pair Jack Kirby and inker Chic Stone for page 13 of the March 1965 issue of "Fantastic Four" #36, published by Marvel Comics. Art is from "The Frightful Four!" story which introduced the titular supervillain team - The Wizard, Sandman, Paste-Pot Pete and longtime Inhumans Queen Medusa (who was suffering from amnesia at the time, accounting for her "evil" debut). Page has five panels, showing Medusa (described as "The Female Member Of the Frightful Four") lowering herself from the roof w/the help of her lengthy psychokinetically-controlled hair. Top left margin has handwritten "Lowering Herself To Window" pencil notation above first panel. She enters window in second panel, sneaking up on Invisible Girl, who hears her but cannot afford to lessen her concentration on the invisible force field she's using to contain Sandman. Medusa's hair wraps around Sue in third panel as they are joined by The Wizard and Paste-Pot Pete. Wizard sprays Invisible Girl w/sleeping gas and Paste-Pot Pete proclaims "Wizard! Do You Realize What We've Done?? We've Beaten The Fantastic Four!" w/last panel revealing Sandman holding down Mr. Fantastic, whom Wizard also sprays w/sleeping gas. Medusa is shown (wearing her original face mask w/ponytail) in all five panels, w/Wizard and Paste-Pot Pete joining her in three panels. Sandman is only seen in last panel as is Mister Fantastic. Invisible Girls appears in four panels. Top margin has handwritten "F. Four" title and issue number in grease pencil at upper left w/page number at upper right. Extreme margins have some aging and minor corner tip wear w/some scattered pencil production notations at margins. Small stain at bottom left. Artboard is VF overall. Some white correction fluid has been applied to Invisible Girl's hair in panels she appears, as art was changed, but art is o/w clean and displays Exc.
