Item Description
1.5". c. 1910.  No back paper. Button designates "Pony Club Member" This "club" was started in 1907 by the St. Paul Webb Publishing Company. Children who joined competed for prizes by selling subscriptions to the Farmer's Wife Magazine. Top prize offered was Shetland Pony complete w/saddle.  The company kept their word and awarded numerous ponies over the years. Button depicts young boy in Rough Rider-like uniform next to young girl, both seated on Shetland ponies nibbling grass.  On this button the images are taken from a bw photo and then color tinting was added to the children's clothing plus the neck and head of the boy's horse. Couple of very lt. hairline scratches show only in reflected light. Exc.
