Item Description
Large 18x18" piece of thin vinyl has high-relief mask design of the titular Xenomorph aliens in the 1992 "Alien" sequel "Alien 3." This is a mold proof created by Collegeville before the costume went into final production. This is initial version, w/inner set of jaws being open as opposed to the final production piece, which depicted the inner jaws closed. Sheet is marked "For Ken" in large black felt tip pen, Ken referring to the sculptor/artist for this and all masks at Collegeville at the time. Once he was happy w/his work, it was sent off to the next step, which resulted in mold proofs like this. A lightweight piece of thin vinyl was collapsed over his sculpture and then sent back to him for approval, hence the "For Ken" inscription. Sheet has pin holes along margins and moderate handling wear/warping and some scattered dust soiling. Fine overall. Comes w/7.5x9-7/8" high relief thin Vacuform plastic Xenomorph mask. This version is a test shot that varies from the production version in that it features a brown color scheme w/white teeth while the production version features a black/gray color scheme w/a yellow tint to the teeth that closer resembles how the aliens actually look in the film series. Also, the second, inner set of jaws are depicted as being open (as seen on mold proof). NM. Brown color variety mask comes w/matching 16.25x16.5" trimmed sheet of vinyl, featuring brown color scheme for printed chest portion of costume, complete w/"Alien 3" name at bottom. This color was ultimately unproduced. Some scattered handling wear but VF overall. Boxed Size Medium (7-8) costume and mask comes along, illustrating the differences between the earlier open jaw design and the final production costume. Box shows wear and costume just comes along. A one-of-a-kind lot for the Alien collector. From the Collegeville Archives (see other Collegeville items throughout the auction).
