Item Description
9.75x11.5" artboard has India ink original art of Buster Brown standing beside Tige w/Buster word balloon reading "Charlie Has Slipped His Collar" to which Tige replies "Bow Wow Wow." Resolution text box at bottom right reads "Resolved - That It Is A Mistakes To Stay Too Long Any Place - Buster Brown." Bottom left has been boldly inscribed in black ink "With Sincere Regards To Mr. Charles Stevenson - From R.F. Outcault - May 26rh 1906 - Buffalo." Stevenson was an actor and personal friend of Outcault's, having played Bernard Dufresne in the stage play "Zara" 1898-1901; the role of Louis XV from 1902-1904 and Kaeso Arcissus in the stage play "Adrea" 1905-1906. These three roles are referenced on the including vintage mat, which has hand-lettered roles and dates at bottom. Top margin of artboard has some glue staining and margins are lighter as artboard was matted for decades. Back of artboard has scattered aging and penciling. Despite some lt. aging, art remains clean and would display Exc if re-matted and framed. Vintage mat just comes along. Wonderful art by the legendary creator of Buster Brown, The Yellow Kid, and Pore Lil Mose.
