Item Description
George W. Fritz joined the Phila. Bureau of Police in 1900. By 1901 he headed the bicycle squad and in 1904 he organized the city's first motorcycle squad. His 1926 title was "Commissioner of Police Sesquicentennial International Exposition." This lot includes three of his business cards, his "Commissioner" hat badge in heavy brass with threaded post, screw cap and pointed prong on reverse and his heavy brass shield with vertical pin and safety clasp. Front has eagle at top with raised center star surrounded by robin egg blue enamel lettering "George W. Fritz/Commissioner Of Police/Sesqui-Centennial/Phila. Pa." Also included are 8 photocopies (see previous lot) which include one 12/1/1926 letter sign by Fritz at Sesqui closing in which he recommends some officers for compensation. The badges are NM and each is unique.
