Item Description
First is heavy copper luster die-cut white metal with high relief portrait, two cannon barrels and text "Hero Of Manila/Dewey". Frame has two tiny "feet" and back has wire prong that serves as an easel to prop. Last of four we acquired twenty years ago. Next is the largest known Dewey badge produced by Jas. Murdock, Cincinnati maker of a similar embossed brass badge for McKinley during the 1896 election. The eagle hanger has partial .25" break in the left wing but solidly attached. Wing finish has gray color in crevices. The 5" shell has a few tarnish dots to right of his nose but overall very clean and only moderate denting/creasing of the embossed brass portrait. Numerous slogans on cardboard back with primary text "Do-We Want To Be Outdone ?/No !!/Therefore Wear The Dewey Bronze Medallion 'Hurrah' Procession Badge". Only second we've seen. Fine and Rare.
