Item Description
8.5x11" single-sided handbill for Sept. 9, 1961 concert that took pace at Rockland Palace in New York, NY. Billed as "This Is The Big One! Kick-Off Dawn Dance Of The Season" and featured "10 Fabulous Star Attractions In Person," going on to list Sam Cooke, Maxine Brown, Chuck Jackson, Jive Five, The Olympics, Little Anthony and The Imperials, Bernard Byars, Ted Taylor and Savoy Big Blast Band and Wild Jimmy Spruill & Orchestra. Handbill features photos of Cooke, Brown, Little Anthony and others. Cooke had just signed w/RCA Records a couple months prior and his new single "Cupid" had just reached the charts. "Chain Gang" had also reached No. 2 on the Billboard pop chart just weeks before this performance, but only "Cupid" is listed by his name. Minor corner bump at upper left, o/w bright, clean and NM. Very rare.
