Item Description
8.5x11" program w/34 pages. Issued for $1, program covers the "First Annual Monterey Folk Festival," which took place May 17-19, 1963 in Monterey, CA. The festival featured Bob Dylan's first-ever west coast performance, and a very early appearance by his longtime friend, The Grateful Dead leader Jerry Garcia. Dylan performed four songs on May 18th. The program includes a photo of Dylan alongside short biography, and he is mentioned in the daily schedule, referred to as "The Newest Young Folk Star Bob Dylan In His First Major West Coast Appearance." Other artists appearing at the festival included Peter Paul & Mary, The Weavers, The Dillards, Roscoe Holcomb, The Rooftop Singers and The New Lost City Ramblers. Also appearing at the festival (but not mentioned in the program) were The Wildwood Boys (w/Jerry Garcia on banjo). Other content includes "Monterey Jazz Festival" full page ad, sponsor ads and ten pages of sheet music. Program shows scattered aging/wear w/moisture staining along spine that affects inside front cover and first page aand has caused staple oxidation. Scattered moisture staining along top margin and lower right corner, which also affects a few page edges. Front cover has small dark stain at top center which bleeds through onto first page. Back cover has partial ring of oxidation. VG/Fine overall w/Fine to VF content. Rare.
