7/8" w/"Humane Supply Co. Medina, Ohio" back paper. Hake Third Party #2150. In 1896, Debs was a hopeful presidential candidate for nomination by the National People's Party, more commonly known as the Populist Party. The Party's first nominee in 1892 was James B. Weaver. This button would have been made before the Populist Convention July 24-26, 1896 in St. Louis, as the convention ended up endorsing the Democratic nominee Bryan (who favored many Populist ideas) and their own Thomas Watson for V.P.
