Item Description
1,5" w/no maker name or union bug. Truman was indeed behind the 8-ball heading into the 1948 campaign. At his party's nominating convention, Southern delegations walked out over the civil rights plank w/Strom Thurmond forming the State's Rights Democratic Party and running as their candidate for President. Former VP Henry Wallace rallied the party's left wing to his newly formed Progressive Party and the Republicans nominated an experienced Thomas Dewey. So dismal were Truman's chances that the Los Angeles Press Club awarded him an 8-ball trophy when he addressed the group in June. This iconic campaign button pictures Truman right behind the "8" ball and is among the rarest and most desirable buttons from his 1948 campaign. The tin litho printing is highly prone to paint wear and while there are scattered scratches and tiny hairlines of missing paint it retains 99% of its original paint. Exc. A special opportunity to obtain a spectacular Truman artifact.
