Item Description
Original mailing envelope w/typed recipient name and hand-lettered "From The Manufacturers Of Superman Pins" return address in pencil bears March 3, 1942 New York postmark and contains 8.5x11" typed letter on Macfadden Publication Inc. letterhead. Envelope shows moderate aging and scattered staining. Fine overall. Letter is undated and reads "Dear Reader: We Are So Sorry To Disappoint You. There Are No More Superman Pins Available. As You Know, The Government Needs All The Tin It Can Possibly Get And So The Manufacturer Had To Stop Making The Superman Pin For Which You Sent Us A Nickel. We Are Therefor Returning Your money And Hope That You Will Understand And Not Be Too Disappointed." Letter is signed by "Radio Mirror" Assistant Editor Belle Landesman in black ink. Folded as issued, letter is lightly aged. VF. Rare and esoteric World War II Superman-related item, the first example we've seen in our 52 years.
