Item Description
c. 1917-1918. Sizes of buttons are 5/8" to 1.5". All have letters W.S.S. or words War Savings except the last three are for Thrift Stamps. Thrift stamps were for people of meager means who would accumulate Thrift stamps, which bore no interest, to eventually buy a War Savings Stamp. Row 1 #1 is from 1918 and has the date for National War Savings Day plus a quote from President Wilson. Has Jens, Milwaukee back paper with a few inked numbers. Also in Row 1 is "Official Pledge Solicitor" button, and "I Sell" button and two related to Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. Row 2 #1 is cardboard helmet w/ stickpin. Next two are "Honorable Service" badges with the first engraved "Power Lucas". Fourth is "Medal of Honor" and fifth is "Worker". Many rarities and vast majority Exc. to Mint.
