Item Description
Large 2 x 3-3/8" die-cut and embossed brass German-made frame, designed like a standing easel, with German text on reverse "Ges. Gesch" (meaning patented or registered). Center of back has raised brass tab forming a slot which holds horizontal brass bar pin. Front edges depict tall trees with leaf clusters at top flanking a shield with inset stars and stripes celluloid while above is a perched eagle with spread wings. Four reverse tabs hold the front raised rectangular frame with three rows of tiny stipple indents. The enclosed tintype of a young Bryan facing right is overall 15/16 x 1.75". There are about a dozen tiny slightly visible diagonal hairlines in the emulsion across his face between his neck and eye plus less obvious craze lines, close to microscopic, over the emulsion background. All these lines in the emulsion are very tiny and emulsion otherwise remains intact with no actual loss. A spectacular and rare Bryan item. The only example known to us.
