Shield features insignia style image of the 1284th Engineers Combat Battalion, which was activated in 1944 and saw action in both European and Pacific Theaters. Image shows bird running w/Army Engineers Castle w/large "1284" and "Engr. C. Bn" notation. Top of castle has Nazi swastika and Imperial Japan Rising Sun banners. Bird holds caricature severed heads (complete w/dripping blood) of Hitler and Hirohito in his feet. Some scattered aging to wood and lt. age toning to right side of shield, but still Fine/VF overall. These types of display items were unique or made in very small quantities for display on commanders desks, officers clubs, etc. Rare and first we've seen in our 52 years.
