Item Description
Both of these buttons are cataloged in Paul Muchinsky's book Baseball Pinback Buttons in his Section S devoted to 92 buttons in the 2.25" format which Muchinsky says were produced between 1954 and 1960. In his book Berra is #38 and Mantle is #52. While many buttons in the series do not have attachments, his Berra has a pink ribbon with plastic bat and ball charms and his Mantle has a pink ribbon with vertical "NY Yankees". He assigned each a value of $400.00. Neither example offered here has a ribbon. The Berra has tiny black dot on his left cheek which is in the photographic paper. There are tiny faint tan age dots on the curl of the button but viewed directly the only ones that show are two around 1 o'clock, 1 at 2 o'clock and 1 at 4 o'clock. Button retains full gloss. VF. Mantle has many faint gray or tan tiny age dots on the left side of his image and a little above his name, but none on his face or the right side. Again, full gloss. Fine. Both are very sharp and clear photos.
