Item Description
Original box w/lid label w/bold "U-Bomb-Jap Carrier-Maru" text contains 17.5" long painted wood Japanese aircraft carrier toy. Released during the 1940s as a homefront item, toy features exploding capability, and bottom hull piece has spring-loaded steel trap that has separate flight deck (painted w/Imperial Japan's Rising Suns and "Maru" name), which then has separate control tower and pair of gun turrets (all w/nail "guns") placed in appropriate deck holes. Bomb site block has metal lever for use dropping marble "bombs" onto ship in attempt to trigger trap, which causes ship to blow apart when struck at the right spot. Some lt. aging and trace oxidation to steel trap and metal components but not distracting and still Exc. overall. Working. Box shows scattered lt. wear and lid label has some insect damage to margins. Box is VF overall. Comes w/aged and folded instructions sheet. Nice example of one of the interesting low production wooden toys made by various small companies when major toy companies were involved in war work and metal was not available for toy making.
