Item Description
One of two designs (see following item) produced by Ostby & Barton of Rhode Island in 1941 and issued by dairies participating in the Superman Defense Club milk program. Top of ring features milk company initial "M" at upper left w/diagonal lightning bolt separating it from eyeball design at lower right. Brass plate on top of ring snaps off from base and underside holds a paper sticker picturing Superman along w/his name. This is an outstanding NM example w/just a small dot of surface paper off below the last two letters of "Superman," which is barely noticeable unless magnified. In our 52 years we've offered only one or two other examples w/this paper image in such high grade condition. Outstanding brass luster remains highly reflective all over on the order of 98% Mint. Of roughly 30 known examples in all grades, we've seen only this and three others that are truly in NM condition. Over the past 20 years we've seen these initials (followed by the number we've seen of each) - A-1, B-4, E-1, M-2, R-1 and W-1.
