Item Description
1940s. 10x14x1" thick wooden base has unique folk art creation mounted to it for overall height of 15". Toilet "bowl" is an inverted World War II Japanese metal helmet painted white w/"Empire Of Japan" text on front over image of Rising Sun. "Bowl" is mounted on brass shell base. Lid and seat are also wood. Dispenser is fully functional as follows - liquid is put into copper "tank," handle is pushed to "flush," which releases liquid into bowl interior's copper holding bowl. Turning brass petcock valve on front then dispenses drink. Due to scale of piece, it was most likely used to dispense liquor, perhaps in an officer's club. This was also most likely created at the very beginning of the war, as strict conservation of copper and brass was the rule as the war progressed. Wooden lid has been reattached towards back as lid cracked, but this is not visible when item is displayed and does not detract. Fine/VF overall. Wonderful concept and design, a truly unique homefront item.
