Item Description
c. 1933. 7/8" each. First is cello w/graphic of the nine Scottsboro boys behind bars and text "Save The Scottsboro Boys." Light fading of red ink otherwise only moderate wear. Fine. Second is litho reading "Free The Scottsboro Boys." Paint crazing and moderate age toning. Fine. Both are scarce. Important early civil rights buttons issued by the International Labor Defense (ILD) the legal arm of the Communist party. The Scottsboro Boys were falsely accused of gang raping two white women and were embattled in the court system of Alabama fighting for their lives for almost two decades. The case is an important early domino in the civil rights movement and a glaring representation of the injustices African Americans faced.
