Item Description
The Boy Scouts of America used Casper the Friendly Ghost for a period of time to recruit members, appearing in comics, on buttons and other promotional material during the 1960s. Offered here are three hand-painted prototype masks featuring Casper wearing a Cub Scouts hat and painted in blue/yellow scout colors. Pair of 10x10.75" test shot paint models feature painted hats, one w/blue accents added to one eye and mouth while other does not have blue, only yellow tongue. Version w/o blue accents has thinner section at center left margin w/small hole, not affecting mask area. Both display VF/Exc. 8x9.25" mask has been completely hand-painted and has detailed "Cub Scouts - BSA" hat. Mask is evenly aged w/scattered wear and few small edge cracks. Fine overall. Unique lot. From the Collegeville Archives (see other Collegeville items throughout the auction).
