Item Description
7.5x9.75x2.7/8" thick special bound volume ©1906 The Outing Publishing Company, collecting issues of "The Outing Magazine." Volume features custom cover w/gilt lettering noting it was "Edited By Casper Whitney." Beginning of volume features special pages including title page noting contents include Vol. 47 that were originally published Oct. 1905 to March, 1906. Additional pages break down contents into categories w/author credits. Of particular note is the Dec. 1905 issue, which features "The Fight At Buckskin" by Clarence Edward Mulford which is the first published Hopalong Cassidy story. Story is accompanied by "Hopalong Takes Command" full color frontispiece illustration by Frank Schoonover. Mulford (1883-1956) created Hopalong Cassidy in 1904 and the many short stories and 28 novels were adapted to radio, feature film, TV and comic books. Inside front cover has inked inscription. Volume has moderate moisture staining to top right third of book throughout but nice quality paper so moisture's impact is not as significant as it would be for pulp paper. Cover has moderate aging to spine and corner tip/edge wear, w/more noticeable wear at top/bottom of spine. VG/Fine overall. Historic item for the Hopalong Cassidy collector.
