Item Description
Visually stunning 30x40" stone litho poster features iconic World War I image of Uncle Sam by James Montgomery Flagg, an image which has become synonymous w/the United States and is one of the most popular of all war posters. Using his own image to avoid having to hire a model (adding only some age and a white goatee), Flagg fashioned one of the most successful recruitment posters ever printed, so popular that it was later re-purposed for World War II. ©1917 Leslie-Judge Co. Poster has scattered handling wear but was never folded, and has now been linen-mounted w/some minor restoration, mainly to borders (more prevalent at top left and bottom right) and repairing pin holes at corners. Top center of Uncle Sam's hat has 1" area of restoration, which is not overly distracting. Slight fade to red color areas of poster, but blue remains bright and vivid. Displays VF as linen-mounted and restored. Iconic American image.
