Item Description
17x23" cotton textile on original 30.25" wooden staff. Listed in Collins, "Threads of History" as plate #376, page 188. Portrait of Washington holding a note reading "Washington Victory Is Ours Paul Jones" as he stands next to Blueskin, the gray horse he favored during the Revolutionary War. The oval image has a cracked Liberty Bell and "Washington" at top all framed by 39 stars set against 13 vertical stripes. A 1/2" hole at extreme top right and damp staining affecting the lower third. Otherwise moderate even age toning and light wrinkling. VG. The commanding image of the founding father and first president is unique to this item. A delightful artifact of the American centennial celebration.
