Item Description
Sky Riders was a 1930s aviation-themed club sponsored by Belle Meade Shoe Co, a division of General Shoe Corporation, located in Nashville, TN. Their Pilot's Handbook invited children to write to John Ball, Transport Pilot No. 20390, to obtain a Sky Riders Pilot's Examination, which when passed, secured the applicant a Sky Riders Pilot's License. The club operated throughout the 1930s and was advertised in model airplane magazines of the era. Offered here is a lot of 11 pieces, including the aforementioned "Sky Riders Pilot's Hand Book" and six wings badges for various ranks - brass Lieutenant, Captain, Colonel and General, brass w/Lieutenant cello attachment, tin litho Captain, three .75" to 1" dia. cello buttons, including "Royal Order Of Sky Riders" button. Hand Book has pinch creases to spine and is VG/Fine while rest shows varying degrees of aging/wear, most are VF to Exc. Lot also includes 3" long folding pocket knife w/two blades and "Sky Riders" metal attachment on handle. Scattered aging but Fine/VF overall. Most are the actual examples shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
