Item Description
PLEASE NOTE - RING CONDITION IS AS DESCRIBED. WHAT YOU SEE IN OUR PHOTO (ESPECIALLY IF ENLARGED) IS NOT WHAT IS SEEN BY THE NAKED EYE. THE HIGH QUALITY OF THE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE AMPLIFIES EVEN THE MOST MINOR IMPERFECTION. LOOKING AT THE ITEM IN PERSON AND UNDER NORMAL VIEWING CONDITIONS, LITTLE TO NONE OF THIS IS EVIDENT. WHEN WE GIVE A RING LIKE THIS A HIGH GRADE, THAT IS THE ACCURATE GRADE AND A MORE TRUE ACCOUNT OF THE ITEM AS SEEN IN THE CATALOG PHOTO.

This is the rarest Orphan Annie ring and indeed one of the rarest of all premium rings. The ring was issued by Quaker Cereals, very briefly during their final year of radio program sponsorship. This example grades Exc.+ and is the third best known of a total of 13. All brass ring has adjustable bands picturing a "Pursuit Plane" on one side and a "Bombing Plane" on opposite side. Top has a small rivet holding three individually movable plates comprising the ring top. Each plate has a small hole of graduated diameter and the idea is to hold the ring to the sky to look at an airplane. If the image fits within one of these holes, then the plane is at an altitude designated on the three pieces as: 2,500 feet, 5,000 feet or 10,000 feet. Underside of ring has small "Made In U.S.A." and partial "Attleboro" text. Overall both interior and exterior surfaces retain flawless, bright Mint luster w/a few minor exceptions. The middle "5,000" plate has a few near microscopic luster dots off the extreme right edge and the bottom "2,500" plate has muted luster w/rainbow patina of deeper gold tone than the two upper plates. The entire ring base below the plates is about as Mint as possible. We see no flaws. A superb example overall. Ring comes w/the second mailer box we've seen in our 52 years. Cardboard box has "The Quaker Oats Co. Chicago, Illinois" return address label and typed recipient name/address. Minor dust soiling on label and right end flap tab that tucks into the box is loose but present. Fine. Rare box.
