Item Description
Some of these pocket watches were issued w/braided cord and a leather knob (hence insert design) while others were issued like the one offered here, in 3.25x3.75x.75" deep box w/"Lone Ranger With Fob & Gun" factory paste-over label on lid edge as issued. New Haven, ©1940 The Lone Ranger Inc. Lid label shows moderate wear and is evenly aged. Main lid panel has .75" line impression and tiny pin holes to Lone Ranger's eyes. Box is free of any corner splits. Lid shows some corner tip/edge wear and has some aging/staining to underside. Box is tight and Fine. Comes w/folded instruction sheet/guarantee which has splits at fold crease intersection. VG/Fine. Die-cut insert holds 2" dia. pentagonal watch w/1-3/8" decal image of "The Lone Ranger" on reverse. Two different decals were used, this is the rarely seen first version of this watch w/decal image that matches image on lid. Decal has scattered lt. wear and center has 1/16" spot of bare brass showing through. Decal is Fine overall. Front of case shows obvious wear w/much brass showing through dark red finish. Generic dial w/small "New Haven" name remains bright and clean. Running and VG overall. Comes w/generic leather holster fob (w/o Lone Ranger markings) as issued. Holster holds nickel-plated cast iron gun. Scattered aging/lt. wear to holster w/some trace oxidation to metal buckle. Fine/VF. Rare as complete and boxed.
