Item Description
1.25" with choice color depiction of Archibald Willard's painting The Spirit of '76. Back paper names jobber Metropolitan Equipment Co. of NYC with small text naming maker W&H. Unlike the wide variety of liquor prohibition buttons, this is one of the few and among the best that take the opposite view. Reading simply "United Liberty League" this group was backed by the liquor industry and the button likely dates from the 1903 race for NYC mayor when the group claimed credit for the Democratic victory of George B. McClellan Jr. and the entire Democratic ticket thanks to their membership of 125,000 who are "all voters". NM. Rare.
