Item Description
6x12" hand painted metal license plate attachments. c. 1960. In 1952 as President-elect, Ike visited South Korea fulfilling a campaign promise to seek an end to the stalemate and end the Korean War. By the end of July of 1953 an armistice had been signed splitting the North and South at the 38th parallel. Ike returned to South Korea in 1960, this time as President, addressing the National Assembly reaffirming American support to the Republic. The license plates offered here were hand made for Ike's convertible and a US Secret Service follow car with text translating to "US #1" and "US #2." Both have moderate paint wear and age toning. Fine. These unique auto tags were collected by Secret Service Agent Samuel Kinney who was assigned to protect Ike during the trip. Mike Nichols Collection.
