Item Description
Russell Patterson created the "Mamie" Sunday page for United Feature Syndicate in 1951. Part of a revival of the glamorous "dumb blonde" in comics, in the movies and on the stage (of which Marilyn Monroe helped start), the strip's beautiful lead was lovingly rendered, as was the strip's New York City setting. Patterson added a panel of paper dolls to many of these Sunday comics. Offered here is a 16-5/8x23.5" artboard w/Patterson's pen and ink original art for Nov. 25, 1951 Sunday page, complete w/last two panels featuring "Mamie Models" paperdoll designs. The six story panels feature Mamie stepping on scale at department store while holding large boxed coat. She frets about the weight she seemingly put on and announces to her mother that she's going on a diet as she hands her her coat. She refuses to eat and works out the following morning, finding out she lost 10 pounds overnight (still not realizing that the coat was the culprit that added said 10 pounds). Patterson has signed last paperdoll panel and fifth panel has UFS copyright strip. Top margin has slight trim. Artboard has even lt. aging w/faint spot of moisture at top of second paperdoll panel. Artboard has faint "ghosting" from other, this is not overly distracting. Fine overall.
