Item Description
This issue comes from its original owner, who bought it fresh off the rack in 1963. As a comic-loving youth, he dreamed of working at Marvel Comics. Full of optimism, he traveled to the Marvel offices in New York City, only to have his hopes dashed by a simple "We're not hiring." Dejected, he made his way to leave, only to be confronted by Stan Lee himself, who offered to take him to lunch. It was at this lunch Lee advised his youthful admirer to pursue his studies instead of trying to write comics. Thinking no one would believe his story, he asked Lee if he would sign this copy of "Amazing Spider-Man" #1, which Lee graciously did, borrowing the ballpoint pen of a nearby waitress.

Marvel. First appearances of J. Jonah Jameson and The Chameleon. First Fantastic Four crossover. Origin of Spider-Man retold. Stan Lee story. Steve Ditko cover and art. Off-white pages. Key Silver Age Marvel comic, further enhanced by having a clear and distinct vintage signature of Spider-Man's co-creator on its front cover.

While Stan Lee signed many, many comics during his life, this is not one of the common felt tip pen signatures Lee signed at countless comic book conventions. This vintage, ballpoint signature comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA as well as a wonderful provenance.
