Item Description
2.25" w/spring pin. Radich operated the Stephen Radich Gallery in New York City. In Dec. 1966 the gallery featured a show of Marc Morrel's art protesting the Vietnam war that incorporated American flags into many controversial pieces. Radich was charged and convicted of casting contempt on the American flag and sentenced to 60 days in jail or a $500 fine. He appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court where the court split 4-4 w/Justice William O. Douglas declining to vote. The conviction was eventually overturned in 1974. This button is from a demonstration in New York City and has hand written "Proof" on reverse. Only light wear in reflected light. Exc. displaying Mint as made. Rare.
