Item Description
17x22" glossy paper poster released in 1941 promotes the first issues of two patriotic comic titles, "U.S.A. Is Ready" (published by Timely Comics) and "U.S.A. Comics" (published by Dell). Poster features images of the comic covers. "U.S.A. Is Ready" was a one-shot that featured a cover by Anderson and was distributed by The American News Co. as noted on poster. "U.S.A. Comics" ran for 17 issues, the first issue shown here featuring a classic Joe Simon and Jack Kirby cover depicting patriotic hero The Defender. "U.S.A. Comics" was distributed by Kable News Company as noted on poster. Poster was produced to differentiate the two similarly titled books, w/"Tack This Up In A Prominent Spot In Your Return Room!" text, further noting "It Will Save You A Lot Of Confusion And Probable Loss, In Handling Returns Of This Magazine Which Came Out Recently With A Title Similar To Our U.S.A. Comics." Poster was folded into quarters as issued to newsstand dealers/wholesalers, fold lines showing some lt. scattered wear. Left/right margins have approx. 1.75" strip of moisture staining along margins (slightly larger at corners) which could be matted out for display. Small spot of moisture staining at bottom center. VG overall. Very rare, this is the only known example. A must have rarity for Golden Age/Timely collectors.
