Item Description
These ten badges, Promotion Record certificate and three Secret Code Books were introduced by Quaker cereals in 1938-1939 for radio club members. The ten badges range from 1.25" to 2.5" dia. These premiums are from 1938: litho tin Member pinback, celluloid pinback for Canadian members, and badges for Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Inspector General, Patrol Leader. The paper 1938 premiums are the 8.5x14" unused with mailer Promotion Record (lightly tanned) and the Secret Code Book (3x6") which pictures the badges of various rank. The Patrol Leader is rare and we've had only a few in our 52 years as 12 Quaker box tops were required plus the recruitment of five new members. For 1939, three new badges were introduced: one for first year new members, one for the "Second Year Members" (replacing the pinbacks), and one specifically for girls reading "Member Girls Division". The Secret Code Book was revised for 1939 and this group includes the "Printed In U.S.A." black cover version used in America and the Canadian version unlisted in the Hake Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia. Contents match USA version except the cover is blue not black, inside text is blue not black and back cover names not only Quaker Puffed Wheat and Rice but also Quaker Corn Flakes. The 1939 USA version has owner's details in ink inside front cover. The other two are unused. On the badges, a small bit of luster is off the Inspector General, Patrol Leader and Lieutenant badges but these remain VF, other Exc. An outstanding Tracy collection, the most complete we have ever offered.
