Original release 27x41" one-sheet movie poster for the classic 1956 MGM science fiction film directed by Fred M. Wilcox and starring Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, and Leslie Nielsen as well as Robby the Robot, one of the first movie robots that was more than just a mechanical tin can on legs. "Forbidden Planet" is the first sci-fi film in which humans are depicted traveling in a starship of their own construction and it was also the first sci-fi film set entirely on another planet in deep space, away from Earth. Classic poster depicts Robby the Robot carrying Anne Francis across alien planet landscape, w/space station and ringed planets in bkg. Originally folded, poster has now been linen-mounted and has had some moderate restoration to margins and along fold lines and at fold crease intersections, including some filled in spots. Margin restoration includes repairs to pin holes at corners. Poster is evenly aged and now displays VF w/strong color. Widely considered one of the great sci-fi films of the 1950s, "Forbidden Planet" is a precursor of what was to come for the sci-fi film genre in the decades that followed. Wonderful example of one of the most sought after movie posters of this genre.
