Item Description
2x4" to 4.25x6.5". Included are: "Chas. J. Guiteau, Assassin Of The President" cabinet card by "C. M. Bell" (moderate toning to mount and photo, VF); "The Guiteau Trial" w/images of assassin at center surrounded by judges Porter and Cox, prosecutors Corkhill and Davidge and defense Scoville and Reed; "Walter S. Cox" signed cabinet card (scattered light toning along top of image, VF); blank back card "Charles J. Guiteau Attorney And Counselor" w/address in the "Marquand Building" New York City (remnants of scrapbook mounting on back right edge, VF) and partially printed cardstock trial ticket signed by "George Corkhill" US District Attorney, Washington DC and issued for "January 24, 1882" the day before Guiteau was found guilty (minor edge wear most notably a tiny bend at bottom left corner, Exc.). Frustrated that Garfield would not appoint him to an ambassadorship the New York lawyer stalked the President and Secretary of State James Blaine eventually shooting Garfield at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station July 2, 1881. Public interest in the trial was intense and tickets for this sensational event were in high demand and difficult to acquire. The finest group of Guiteau trial material we've offered in our 53 years.
