Item Description
This is one of the most amazing Theodore Roosevelt items we have ever seen. The item is made of extremely high relief painted papier mache with a flat back featuring an oval cardboard cover along with a 1.25" vertical brass stickpin. The head is 2.5" tall from the bottom of the chin to the tip of his miniature Rough-Rider style hat. The width is 2-1/8" from ear to ear. The depth of his face, with highly molded details, is 1.25". The steep vertically angled, tapered metal spring is mounted just above the nose molded as part of his face. The spring is 1.25" tall ending in a rounded three dimensional composition material second nose. While the pin-back is unique in our experience, there is also a full figure TR with spring arms and the same design bobbing head (but with only a "normal" nose, no spring) pictured in Volume 2 of the Running For President book by Schlesinger/Frent on page 40. This mechanical novelty was clearly designed to solicit a reaction from any viewer encountering it who will be tempted to reach out and "Tweak" the nose on the spring tip to see it move. The only example known to us and NM displaying Mint.
