Item Description
3-3/4" tall unmarked (too early)  sterling silver and enamel (plus a likely gold oar in the rower's hand) badge. Blue enamel on bar pin reads "Pair Oared Shells" while below is a pennant design that swivels on a rod with date "18/July 4/88". Circular suspension, like a life preserver, reads "The Cup And People's Regatta Philadelphia". Full figure of an oarsman in uniform sits on the inner edge of the suspension. Very bottom of oar has tiny bend in shaft. Tarnished as  expected. VF, beautifully constructed and unique for this event on the Schuylkill River. The main event that 4th was the Downing Cup with crews coming from as far away as Chicago. In addition to the races, there was a massive fireworks display and 38 balloons were launched, one for each state.
